float.

when one is surviving
barely
hardly
possibly
only just
surviving

when anger
swims around the edges
smouldering
like the haze of the firesky
heated and dominating
blurring
the realms
of reason and reality

when, frustrated
one turns left ways and right ways
looking for any way
to move
any path
to turn
just a chance to breathe
just a grasp at freedom

well.
sometimes
just to float is to win

to rest in a dangerous place
to swim in uncertain currents
tenaciously continuing,
steadfastly
sticking to it.

here we stand
